I’m sure you’ve noticed by now, but I like to keep tabs on the lessons I’m learning while I prep and play D&D as a DM. I thought I’d start keeping track of the important ones on this page – maybe this way some of them will stick!
Lessons:
- think like a player! What would YOU want to do? Where would YOU want to go?
- you might have to give your players a total recap, so make sure you know exactly what they’ve learned
- if the outcome doesn’t matter, just say YES!
- if an item is CRUCIAL, don’t let them not find it. Either put it in plain sight (just give it to them when you read the room description), or have them find it in the first room they actively search.
- actually look at stat blocks before you play them. Sometimes your “Boss Monster” has 1 hp.
- plan your boss fights!
- it’s okay for combat to be hard. Challenge your players!
- use Feelies.
